Frequently Asked Questions

What are the benefits of massage?

Massage bodywork enhances a deeper connection to the healing pathways inherent in the body’s tissues and organs in order to enhance wellness throughout. Massage reduces anxiety by decreasing the cortisol stress hormone. It boosts the immune system by facilitating increased blood and lymph circulation, thus aiding in the elimination of metabolic wastes, reducing inflammation, and supporting the body’s healing and recovery.

What should I expect in my first massage?

We suggest you arrive 10 minutes before your scheduled appointment to fill out our brief intake form. Once you have been greeted by your therapist and escorted to your room, you will be asked certain questions to ensure that the session will fulfill your needs. You will be properly draped at all times to keep you warm and comfortable.

What do I wear during a massage?

Partial or full disrobing is recommended for your massage session. Each client should undress to their comfort level.  Underwear is optional – this should be a consideration when deciding on the type of massage requested.  We create a very safe environment and give great attention to proper draping. Sports massage and Advanced Stretching sessions do not require disrobing. Feel free to speak with your therapist if you have any questions or concerns.

What should I in feel in the massage?

We are massage therapists, not “skin rubbers”. We massage with a purpose of relaxing and healing the body. Therefore, massage therapy will feel different to everyone according to the condition of their body. The therapist will start out with light to medium strokes and progressively get deeper.
Make yourself comfortable. We will either gently move you or tell you what is needed throughout the session (such as lifting your arm). Many people just close their eyes and completely relax. Others like to talk during their session. Feel free to ask questions about massage and body work in general or about the particular technique you are receiving. Relax and enjoy - this is your time of peace. The session is about you so feel free to let us know if the pressure is too strong or not enough.
We label everything on a comfort scale of 1-10. A “5” means complete comfort with no pain at all. A “6” means a little pain but a “feel good” pain. A “6” is the ideal state for massage because of its therapeutic qualities.

How will I feel after the massage?

It depends on which massage that you received and the condition your body was in prior to the massage. Quite often, if your body is full of toxins, you may feel intoxicated for a few minutes or more after the massage. Some people needed to relax so badly that they feel as if they are going to float out of the massage therapy center. All clients feel the benefits of wonderful relief and renewed rejuvenation over the next few days.  When specific injury or pain release work is done, there can be a short period where your muscles feel sore or tender.

Can I get a massage? Is it for everybody?

It is true that massages are not necessarily for everybody. Massage can harm some people with medical ailments. We call these contraindications. For example, a diabetic who has bad circulation due to diabetes and receives a deep tissue massage may damage their circulatory system by stopping the flow of blood to their extremities. Also, some cancer patients cannot receive massages because massage can spread some cancers.
If there is any doubt that a massage can cause harm to you, the massage therapist will not give the massage. When there is doubt, we require a doctor’s release before proceeding with a massage.

What about massage for minors?

Therapists may provide massage for minors under 18 with parental consent. We ask parents call to schedule a session and sign a Parental Consent Form for us to keep on file.  We also prefer the parent stays in the room for the session.

Can I bring my child or pet with me?

Since it is our responsibility to create a peaceful atmosphere for all of our clients, we ask that you not bring children or pets. We make exceptions for service dogs.
