At Invigorate Your Body, each massage is custom-made for your body and your needs.  Below are a list of various modalities that will be mixed up and used in your massages.  If there is something specific you would like used, please let us know!

Deep Tissue Massage

Deep tissue is more than just deep pressure.  It's used to release chronic muscle tension through slower strokes and more direct pressure or friction applied across the grain of the muscles. This invigorating experience is a process of detection of stiff or painful areas by determining the quality and texture of the deeper layers of musculature, and slowly working into the deep layers of muscle tissue. Specific hand positions and strokes are then used to respond to various tissue qualities. Techniques employing breath and movement are also used for releasing muscular congestion.

Orthopaedic / Sports Massage

Clinical and Sports massage involves addressing the deeper muscles of the body versus a relaxation massage being performed with a very light touch on the surface of the skin. Extensive knowledge of anatomy and physiology help address the range of motion limitations by using a variety of modalities.  It helps to obtain maximum conditioning by  increasing power, endurance and  flexibility both before and after an event or work out.  Can be done fully clothed.

Myofascial Release

MFR is used to  evaluate and treat restrictions in the body's contractile connective tissues (muscles) and non-contractile supportive connective tissues (fascia) by the application of gentle traction, pressures and positioning. Fascia is a complex supportive web throughout the body. It  surrounds groups of muscle fibers, and entire muscle groups and organs. While it  is not contractile, it can be passively elastically deformed. That is how it retains tensions from physical and emotional traumas.  It is also involved when a person suffers chronic pain or physical dysfunction.  Chronically tense muscles restrict blood flow and fatigue the body. Both fascia and muscle tissues can become shortened if they are  improperly used, and layers of fascia can stick together.  Myofascial release techniques are used to coax muscles in spasm to relax, and break adhesions in the fascia.  Myofascial release is an effective therapeutic approach in the relief of cervical pain, back pain, fibromyalgia, scoliosis, neurological dysfunction, restriction of motion, chronic pain, and headaches.

Therapeutic Massage / Swedish Massage

One of the most commonly taught and well-known massage techniques, this is a treatment designed to energize the body by stimulating circulation.  Five basic strokes, all flowing toward the heart, are used to manipulate the soft tissues of the body.  The disrobed client is covered by a sheet, with only the area being worked on exposed.  Therapists use a combination of kneading, rolling, vibration, percussive and tapping movements with the application of oil/cream to reduce friction on the skin.   This massage has shown to be helpful in reducing pain, joint stiffness, and improving general function.

Manual Lymphatic Drainage

The strokes applied in manual lymph drainage are intended to stimulate the movement of the lymphatic fluids in order to assist the body in cleansing.  This is a gentle, rhythmical technique that cleanses the connective tissue of inflammatory materials and toxins, enhances the activity of the immune system, reduces pain, and lowers the activity of the sympathetic nervous system (fight-or-flight feeling).  Can also assist in the reduction of edema or general swelling from injuries.  Usually a 1 1/2 hr treatment.
